2017 86 Hachiroku Matsuri

Pro Crews throws one hell of an 86 track day

For car enthusiasts, Japan is without a doubt one place you absolutely have to visit if given the chance. Strategically schedule it with a track day or a car show and, well, you've already made the cost of your plane trip worth it. Motorsports organizers Pro Crews hosts various events throughout the year and its last gathering of 2017 was the 86 Hachiroku Festival held at Tsukuba Circuit, located in the Ibaraki Prefecture.

If you lust for 86s as much we do, this Matsuri might be something we have to go to next year to see in person. Unlike the other 86 events that went down this year, 86 Matsuri had five different groups: the One-Make Race, 86/BRZ Circuit Challenge, Grip, Drift and a car show. Our Japan correspondent David Ishikawa made his way to the internationally known circuit and from what he tells us, there are still plenty of 86 enthusiasts both young and old.

It doesn't matter what automotive-related event it is, chances are you'll see amazing cars the moment you set foot in the parking lot. The event drew in a few notable guests, such as the Kamata bros. from Tec Arts, Masakazu Yamane from Garage Yamane and even Hiroaki Yamashita of Weld with his SR20DET-powered AE86. Easily one of our favorite 86s was Fukuda's Toyota Levin dressed with HKS' classic "turbee" livery, which used to be on Nobuteru Taniguchi's D1 S15 Silvia. Even though 86s dominated the field, a few non-86 owners took advantage of the three time attack sessions that went down in the morning.

The Trueno is over 30 years old now, but we suspect the 86 movement isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
