The tuning gurus at ABT Sportsline needed something pretty special to celebrate the brand's 125th birthday and we're pretty sure they nailed it with the Audi RSQ8-R Super SUV. The heavy, roomy people-movers that've taken world by storm over the last two decades have gone from mundane and clone-like to seeing some interesting examples that include sporty looks and a smattering of performance.
Audi's RS Q8 is already an incredible performer right out of the box, with 591hp and 590lb.-ft. of torque applied to the pavement via its torque-vectoring rear differential and all-wheel steering. So potent, in fact, that late last year it bested the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S lap record by over 7 seconds on the Nurburgring, claiming fastest SUV honors.
Well, that wasn't quite enough performance according to the crew at ABT Sportsline, who are well-versed in wringing out additional grunt and refining the styling of various Audi and VW offerings. The group applied their magic to the sporty SUV and have labeled it the ABT RSQ8-R, a limited offering that will see just 125 models produced to represent the company that began its initial run back in 1896.
The 591hp factory mill jumps up dramatically by way of ABT Sportsline's Engine Control System, which helps bring output up to 690hp and 649lbs.-ft. of torque on 93-octane pump gas. The sound is also enhanced with the group's stainless-steel exhaust that terminates in four large exhaust finishers.
Aesthetic improvements are based on an in-house designed carbon-fiber kit that includes a front lip and side skirts, extended fender flares, and mirror caps. A rear skirt addition and roof spoiler close out the tastefully engineered body pieces that are highlighted by 23-in. (it's an SUV, after all) flow-forming ABT high-performance HR wheels.
The luxurious cabin is only slightly enhanced by way of small carbon touches that include the shift knob cover and push start/stop button, as well as a number plate to signify which of the 125 models you're lucky enough to be sitting inside of.
Audi's RS Q8 already carries a sleek look and remarkable performance that places it in some competitive waters with the likes of Lamborghini's Urus and the AMG GLC 63 S (we've gotta shorten some of these names a little bit, fellas), both of which it's overtaken on The 'Ring, but ABT Sportline's well thought-out out additions take things even further, offering a very limited edition model that can do it all, and get it done in style.
