If you're able to get your hands a Super73 electric bike, consider yourself lucky as they're one of the hottest and hard-to-buy toys of 2020. Currently, every model is backordered or sold out, much of that due to the fact that more people are staying at home and discovering new hobbies and passions, not to mention Super 73 e-bikes are simply a blast to ride.

If you ordered a Super73 today, you might be waiting until October to get your hands on it, but if I can be honest, it'll be worth the wait. They feature a cool retro-style and high quality construction, don't require a special license or insurance, nor will they break the bank. The cheapest Z1 model goes for $1,260, while the most expensive RX model lists for $3,245. Some might say that's a lot of money... Maybe so, but tell me how much you spent on your last set of wheels and tires? Exactly... A Super73 bike is an all-ages investment that can not only help you get around the city quickly, but let you explore your town in a new, fun and futuristic way.

Earlier this year, John Roberts of Hot Rod, Yiana Matthews of Four Wheeler along with myself and the Super Street Network set out to customize three S1 model bikes. The S1 retails for $1,800 and is Super73's mid-level option. The bike comes with a removable battery so it's easier to charge, lighting so you can ride at night and all-terrain tires so no trail is off limits. I should note, there is an updated S2 model with an aluminum alloy frame, adjustable rebounding suspension and smart phone integration; however, for our first-ever e-bikes, the S1 had all the specs we needed and offered the perfect blueprint to add our own twist.

With the creative direction of Super73 designer Karoline Davidian, each brand modified an S1 bike to reflect their respective genre. They've all been styled quite differently but they go to show you that the customization potential of these bikes is endless. Unfortunately, our examples are one-offs and not for sale, but don't let that stop you from joinin' the club. The community of modified e-bikes are growing from not just local communities but across the globe. Super Street, Hot Rod and Four Wheeler are excited to be a part of Super73 nation and we're looking forward to bringing our bikes to future events to help showcase your builds moving forward. Stay safe and happy riding!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SUPER73 S1

  • Battery: A removable 768 watt-hour, 9-pound battery charges easy in any standard electrical outlet. A fully charged battery gets an estimated range of 30+ miles or 50+ miles in ECO pedal assist mode (yes, there are still pedals if you want to use them). Mileage and battery life vary based on the rider weight, outside temperatures, terrain, incline, etc.
  • Top Speed: Limited to 20mph (in California) but depending on the conditions the bike can reach up to 25+mph especially in downhill scenarios.
  • Weight: 70 lbs. Not the easiest bike to load into the back of an SUV or truck but it's doable.
  • License, Registration, Insurance: Unlike a moped or motorcycle, you don't need them. A helmet is highly recommended.
  • Standard Features: Steel frame, aluminum cargo rack, all-terrain tires, hydraulic disc brakes, LCD display that shows speed and battery life, LED "Halo" headlight, rear brake light
  • Available Colors: black, white, army green, tan
  • Price: $1,800 at super73.com (on sale from $1,995)
